Northamptonshire is a county in the midlands that runs diagonally from near Oxford in the South East to near Cambridge in the North West. Apart from the county town of Northampton the major towns in Northamptonshire are Kettering, Corby and Daventry.
Historically, Northamptonshire has been famous for various forms of manufacturing, most importantly shoes. It is general y regarded as having been the boot and shoe capital of the world in the 18th Century. It was also very big in the iron and steel industry from the 1930’s onwards. Corby, just north of Northampton, was a steel town and at one stage had one of the biggest steel manufacturing companies in the UK.
With excellent communications (M1, M40, A14, A43) and being in the middle of the country many companies have set up logistics centres and warehouses in Northamptonshire. Being located near the car manufacturing centres of Birmingham and Oxford and also having several of the premier racetracks in the country within its county limits, Northamptonshire has become a world leader in Motorsport. It features Silverstone and Rockingham Speedway as circuits as well as several Formula One teams and motorsport engine manufacturers within the county.
With all this manufacturing in the county it is not surprising that Northampton has a high demand for compressed air. Nowadays, this type of equipment is readily available and whilst generally more expensive than the standard oil lubricated machines are of high quality, extremely reliable and generally very energy efficient. Air compressor technology has improved considerably over the past 20 years, improving machine quality, reliability and efficiency. There have also been many improvements in air compressor control technology, further adding to the overall efficiency of the compressed air system as a whole.
