Simplair Pipework Installation, Quadrant EPP, Welwyn Garden City

Quadrant EPP, Welwyn Garden City. Simplair Installation by Air EquipmentQuadrant EPP in Welwyn Garden City recently refurbished their UK production facility in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. Air Equipment undertook the design and installation of the 50mm SimplairŪ HBS ring main and sub-distribution system. The SimplairŪ system looks right at home amongst the electrical trunking and building structure, blending in with the other services and structures that are common in today's production environment.

Simplair tee joint and isolation valve.
Simplair'sŪ modular design means that ring mains go in faster, since there is no cutting in of tees as you go along. Once the ring main is installed, any cross links to form the traditional ladder layout are added using reduction plates as seen here. The tee is let into the side of the main run, valved off for future expansion, and the branch continues away. Reductions in HBS size can be made at this point also in a single fitting

HBS drop to low level.
Drops to low level can be made in a number of ways. In this example where a higher flow to the machine is required, 25mm HBS was used to ensure adequate supply. Then outlet plates are simply bolted to the flat mating face of the SimplairŪ, fit an isolation valve and quick release coupling. Job done! Welded stanchions were employed to ensure a secure fix for the pipe.

14mm drop to termination plate.Simplair also provide smaller bore round pipe for lower flow drops to low level. Here 14 mm pipe has been used to bring air down to a single machine. A proprietary termination plate with a port to connect a wet leg drain is fitted to the bottom of the drop. Fixing holes are driller in the back plate for a secure fix to any flat surface. Push fit connections are used for a speedy installation. The 14 mm pipe is also bendable, this reduces the fitting count, speeds up installation, and preserves pressure in the pipe.

Paddington Station Extension, London

Air Equipment was asked to help with the design and installation of the smoke vent system at the new Paddington Station Extension, which leads to the Heathrow Express check-in. Alongside the main M&E Contractors Eiffel (yes, the same as the famous French tower), we provided a novel and reliable system for opening and closing smoke evacuation vents in the roof of the new area.

Each smoke vent, (and there are many of them!) is actuated by a double acting cylinder situated in the roof structure. The design is such that the cylinders blend unobtrusively onto the steelwork of the roof itself. Only once opened, does anyone notice they are there! Powered by 16 barG compressed air, the designers were able to reduce the diameter of the cylinders, keeping in style with the overall look of the building.

Keeping it all together is a custom control panel, designed and manufactured by Air Equipments controls experts. This system, with UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) gives complete control over the compressor system for all necessary parameters.
